Card sorting - measuring success of navigation early
April 27, 2007
As many Refresh Detroit members know, I’m a big fan of card sorting. At Boxes and Arrows, Iain Barker has published Measuring the Success of a Classification System, a wonderful article that takes Donna Maurer’s card-based classification evaluation technique a step further.
ALA Web Design Survey
April 26, 2007
A List Apart is hosting its first annual survey for web professionals. Complete the survey and enter to win a trip to an ALA event, iPod, jump drive, and t-shirt. You’re also helping collect valuable data about our profession. The survey seems a little long, but only takes about 10 minutes.
There are several excellent events in the next few weeks you want to try to attend. Tonight (sorry for the late notice, I announced it at last night’s meeting too), the Ann Arbor Ad Council April meeting will be “Drive Stellar Results with Search Engine Marketing and the Blogosphere” with speakers Linda Girard, co-founder and CEO of Pure Visibility, Inc., and David Binkowski, Senior Vice President, Word of Mouth Marketing - MS&L Digital.
Next Tuesday, May 1, 2007, High Tech Tuesday at the Ann Arbor IT Zone is Google Analytics by Google Associate Manager Jeff Gilis. Networking begins at 5PM; the session is from 5:30PM-7PM.
Next WednesdayThursday, May 3, 2007, the Detroit Area Cold Fusion group presents Ben Forta, well known author and Cold Fusion guru. The event is in Southfield. As an added bonus, they’re giving away Cold Fusion 8, a copy of Flex Builder w/ Charting, and a Wii at the event!
On May 22nd, marketing expert Seth Godin will be coming to the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor (thanks to the grass roots organizing of Derek Mehraban). You don’t want to miss this event - register online today!

CSS Naked Day!
April 2, 2007
Promote Web Standards by stripping your web site for one day! Wednesday Thursday, April 5 is the annual CSS Naked Day. Sign up here.
The idea behind this event is to promote Web Standards. Plain and simple. This includes proper use of (x)html, semantic markup, a good hierarchy structure, and of course, a good ‘ol play on words. It’s time to show off your “body”.
